Next Steps for the Global Anti-Torture Movement: Istanbul Protocol 2022
Over the past 20 years, the Istanbul Protocol (IP) has provided an internationally recognized tool to empower health professionals to leverage their clinical knowledge and skills to help end torture and safeguard our humanity.

In June, world-leading anti-torture experts launched the Instanbul Protocol 2022 (IP22), the updated United Nations-backed tool that provides guidelines for effective investigation and documentation of torture to help health professionals and other human rights specialists contribute to accountability for torture in countries and communities around the world.

PHR will host an online briefing to showcase what’s new in the IP22, how you can use the updated guide, ways that the Istanbul Protocol has contributed to accountability for torture in countries and communities for the last 25 years, and next steps for the global anti-torture movement.

Featured panelists:
*Juliet Cohen, MD, a forensic physician specializing in examination of victims of torture
*Şebnem Korur Fincanci, MD, president of the Turkish Medical Association
*Vincent Iacopino, MD, PhD, former medical director of PHR
*James Lin, JD, Istanbul Protocol program coordinator at the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims
*Juan Mendez, JD, former UN Special Rapporteur on torture

The conversation will be moderated by PHR medical advisor Rohini Haar, MD, MPH.

We encourage attendees to submit questions for panelists to be covered during the briefing to media@phr.org.
